Phantom Workstations

I have renamed an NT workstation in my domain. Normally I can do this with no problems, however, when I did this one, the PDC stated the computer was removed, but the name still exisits. I do not us WINS or DNS in my domain, so I don't know where to check and see where this "Phantom Name" is hiding? I need to change the name of the PC back to what it was, but the PDC won't let it because it says the name already exists on the server... make sense?

Hi,
You need to delete the machines account from server manager on the pdc before you can reuse the name. Hope this helps...

That was the first thing I did... I deleted it from the server manager then renamed the machine. The server manager said it had been deleted...so I renamed the physical pc to another name... it's been weeks now, but the original name still appears in the server manager list... Thanks though...

Tim, What your describing may be as simple as syncing the BDC's with the PDC. IF it's been over night since this problem it may not be there today.

We do not have a BDC... the name has existed in "phantom land" now for several weeks. Thanks though...
