    Phone charging glitch

Ok, so my dad accidentally reset his phone. He did so because he was convinced he had been “hacked”. His phone stopped charging and displayed the message “plug into usb to charge”. Sound like a bad plug, right? Well the phone would charge fine if turned off but not while turned on. Then the battery would rapidly drain once it was turned on. He is convinced that some sort of malware was draining the battery and trying to get him to connect the phone to his computer. So plausible or tech paranoia?

      Sounds like a bad battery

or charger, or both to me. Depending on age of phone, he should be able to find replacements for both. There does come a point where replacing the battery makes less economic sense than just replacing the phone.

More likely what had he installed recently?

Most likely to be an app he added that turned on things that he did not need which caused the battery drain could also explain the not charging while on so look at where he is getting his apps from and if it is the official App Store Report it.

If it’s not the Official App Store then stop using that place.

Well, I had the same issue. I just did the Factory Reset and everything was back to normal again and charging was fine too.

Most likely there are problems with the power controller, but there may also be problems with the charger or battery. You can detect the problem by connecting a different adapter. If the battery is not removable, then you will have to contact the nearest service center.
