pin outs anyone?

by techxan . Updated 25 years, 4 months ago

I need a source for common (and uncommon) pin outs for cables and adapters used in the networking and telephony support business. Lately I have recently needed a loopback plug for a T1 circut, a V.35, and a terminal connector and rollover (not crossover) cable for a cisco router. (Yea, I know there ought to be one with the router but aparently someone needed it worse than me.)

Do I need a 56K and DSL loopback in my kit? Do different flavers of DSL use different loopback plugs?

And if anyone knows…same money for first answers to these Q’s.

1: Can I hook two computers together with custom adapters and custom patch cables?

DB 25 to Cat 5? DB9 to Cat 5?

2. Can two computers communicate modem to modem without calling out thru a telephone interface? Or will there be a lack of carrier? If a lack of carrier,is there a software carrier enulator I could run on the host?

3. Where can I learn about the modern networking components that are in use and I am seeing onservice calls? I mean I have an MCSE, but what about DSU/modem/router/hub setups. Are these in the telephony world?
