ping and broadcast

Hi,

If you are trying to ping an IP address of 10.10.50.255 and the NT Workstation does not respond, check:-

1. You are (or trying to) logged onto the network
2.Cable is in the Network Card/Modem
3. Network Card/Modem work internally (ping 127.0.0.1)
4. IP, DNS and WINS Settings are all correct.
5. Network Card/Modem driver OK.
6. The node on the IP you are trying to ping is on a/the network reachable by your host.

You can test for a connection by using the TRACERT command:-

Tracert -a 10.10.69.123

will show you the hops your data packets make to get to the source. If you get a few hits then a No Reply...it's not usually your end.

Geez I can be a dill sometimes...make that:

Tracert 10.10.69.123

without the -a. Thats a switch for the ping command, to resolve a machines NetBIOS name. Sorry.
