Ping mystery….

by stergios_nik . Updated 24 years, 9 months ago

Hello,

I have a Client PC on 5th floor that connects to UTP socket. The socket terminates to a patchpanel on 3rd floor.

This Patchpanel port is connected to 100Mpbs hub. And this hub connects to core switch.

My problem is that when I ping the Client PC from 3rd floor, I get reply but after a period of time when client PC becomes idle, I get request time outs.

I went to 5th floor to invastigate the issue. I used the client PC and I realized that there was not problem with the Networkconnection.

I could access file servers and Internet.

I went back to my office and I saw that the REQUEST TIME OUT signal was changed to REPLY for the specific PC on 5th floor.

What is going on?

Is it the Netcard?
Is it the cable?
Is it the patchpanel connection?

The problem is not RANDOM. I mean that it happens all the time as it was described above.
