Pioneer DVD declares itself primary master

by belypushystyslon . Updated 19 years ago

Hi all,
I replaced an ASUS cd drive with a PIONEER DVD on my ASUS laptop. When booting it declared itself primary master and does not detect HDD. I’ve tried to change the Primary Master in BIOS and set it to HDD but it still won’t let me do that either automatically or manually setting up the cylinders, head, sector and other stuff.
When I pull it out the system boots ok (windows xp) and BIOS detects HDD. With the previous cd drive it was all working.
Somebody help. Changing the boot sequence does not work for same reason – BIOS won’t see the HDD.

P.S. Normally HDD is primary master and CD drive was primary slave.
