    Pixel4A Battery Question

    Locked

    by 07paddleyeti ·

I have Google pixel 4a device and the battery life is really bad. Its mainly because the device itself came with a small battery and I am looking for ways to improve it.

It is currently running Android OS 12 and on some forums, I have seen that downgrading to Android 10 helped significantly. I even don’t remember which OS it came with by default but based on gsm arena it seems like 10 was the default. So If i factory reset the phone will it go to Android 10? If that improves the battery life I want to keep it like that. The apps I use generally are WhatsApp, YouTube, Outlook client, and built-in Camera app. If I use Android 10 instead of 12 will there be a limitation with these apps? Android 10 instead of 12 will there be a limitation with these apps ?

If some of those apps get updated by the author, they may stop working in the future if you are running an older version of Android. Then again, you might have a newer model phone when and if that does happen.

Did you try turning off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off the Pixel when not using those features? That could easily help slow the drain of your battery. How long have you owned that phone?

“Rechargeable Battery Charger Case for Pixel 4a 5G” was my fix. There are versions of the 4a that are not 5G so you have to check if the battery case you find is compatible.

Mophie Juice is a common brand that helps with that from rproffit’s suggestion. It should be available for under $100. I don’t know the exact cost or availability for the Pixel 4a phone.

If you factory reset your Pixel 4a, it will not automatically go back to Android 10. It will instead be restored to the version of Android that was installed on it when you first bought it. However, you can manually downgrade to Android 10.

Download the Android 10 firmware for your Pixel 4a from the Google website.
Boot your Pixel 4a into bootloader mode by pressing and holding the Power button and the Volume Down button at the same time.
Connect your Pixel 4a to your computer using a USB cable.
Open the Android Flash Tool and select the Android 10 firmware that you downloaded in step 1.
Click on the “Flash” button to begin the downgrade process.
Once the downgrade process is complete, your Pixel 4a will be restored to Android 10. Note that downgrading to an older version of Android may not improve your battery life, and it may also cause some apps to stop working properly.

In terms of your apps, WhatsApp, YouTube, and the built-in Camera app should all work fine on Android 10. However, the Outlook client may not work properly, as it may not be compatible with Android 10. If you are using a recent version of the Outlook client, you may be able to get it to work on Android 10 by enabling compatibility mode. To do this, open the Outlook app and go to Settings > Account > Account settings. Under the “Account settings” section, select the “More” button and then select the “Compatibility mode” option.

I understand how frustrating it can be to have poor battery life on your Google Pixel 4a. While downgrading to Android 10 might have helped some users, it’s not a guaranteed solution and may come with limitations and compatibility issues for certain apps.

If you factory reset your phone, it will reinstall the current version of Android (Android 12), not automatically revert to Android 10. Downgrading requires manual flashing of firmware, which can be complex and risky.

Instead, I suggest trying these steps to improve battery life:

Optimize app settings to reduce battery usage.
Lower screen brightness and set a shorter timeout.
Disable unused features like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Manage app notifications to minimize battery drain.
Keep your apps updated for potential bug fixes and improvements.
