Play .dat file in Windows Media Player

Can I play .dat files in Windows Media Player? I receive a video CD and the video is in .dat format, when I play it on windows media player, error says "format not supported".
The feedback I got from the user is that she can see the video in her old PC.

anyone can help?

Does the Windows Media Player play any *.dat files?

Or does it just not play this one?

If it doesn't play any, you probably need to reassociate the file extension to Media Player.

I installed Xing Mpeg player. It works.
