There are 2 easy ways to fix this
1. reinstall a media player - Windows Media Player or RealPlayer among others.
2. Create an association with one of these programs if it is already installed.

Creating an association is slightly different depending on OS but essentially all are in MyComputer (either View or Tools Menu)
Folder options/File Types/select extension (wav,mp3,etc) If it exists but is not working properly - Delete it.
Go to a file of that type and open it
You will be prompted to choose the program to use
Choose your former media player whatever it was/is.
If you don't see it in the list choose browse and track it down.
Check the little box in the bottom left and this program will be used everytime you click on files of this type again.
If you have any questions comment back.
Good Luck!

It is always advantageous that you download music in the mp3 format. Not only does this save your download time but also the HDD space on your PC. Also you can download players like Winamp etc free on the web that can be used to play mp3.

Problem with applications like media player is that some associated DLLs get fudged from the system when you install/uninstall something causing the application to crash.

getback in case of any probs
