I dont Know Why This didn’t post the first time I tried. In July of 2007 I bought an old cf-27 toughbook that ran off windows 2000. It worked fine for months, then I contracted a virus that took over as administratoron my system and would allow limited acces to programs and settings. It would not allow access to control panel. I began deleting files in an attempt to get rid of the virus. My method, as uneducated as it was , was to search for files by the same name as the program (which I nolonger recall). When this failed, I looked for a file name abreviation that seemed to be associated. When this yeilded positive results I deleted them. the laptop shutdown. When I attempted to restart I recieved an error message that read “ntldr is missing press ctrl+alt+del to restart”. when I googled ntldr I was able to download a “fix” from a website called tinyempire. This seemed as though it would work. The first option on the disk lead to another error message “Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\hal.dll. Please re-install the above file.” Options 2 through 8 all give me the folowing error “windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. could not read from the selected boot disk. check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.” Option 9 freezes the computer and option 10 reboots back to the disk options screen. Next I went to the microsoft website and downloaded windows xp to six floppy disks figuring that this would help by formatting the disk. I only attempted windows xp because I could not find a windows 2000 for floppy and the computer is not equipped with a cd drive. At any rate the windows xp simply shows another error message “INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing status 18. Setup cannot continue. press any key to to exit.” This has troubled me for three months and I would appreciate any help or suggestions that are offered. I thank you in advance.
