Please Help!

By mini.schnauzer ·
My computer is so, so very slow. I have run Registry Mechanic. I have very few programs listed at Startup. However, when I do the Ctrl-Alt-Delete and check the Processes, there is mega things (34)going on. I have done Scan disk, defrag. I have changed my anti-virus. I am having problems with my Spy Sweeper. Just did an update, and it isn't working properly yet, but the slow computer was happening before I did this. I have scanned for viruses * adware. Anything else I can do. I am pretty new at computers. Thanks in advance.

First thing I do is shut down all running programs so that when you look at the applications running it is blank. Then do a disk cleanup and that will clean out the junk. Next I run the ad-aware and get rid of those items it finds. My system had 39 processes running. The do a spyware sweep, and get those cleaned out. Then I run MacAfee virus check. That should get you back in pretty good shape. Also be sure that you have the Windows firewall enabled.

Has it always been slow?

The best way to get it back to peak performance is to back up you files, reformat the drive and reinstall your software.

Has it always been slow?

Unfortunately, I had already used my copy of Window XP Pro the allowable number of times, and I really don't want to have to go and buy another copy. But I must say, the slowness of everything is driving me crazy...
