Please help - need good dynamic DNS client that runs as a service

By dave ·
Setting up a small network for a client using SBS 2003. Need to find a good dynamic DNS update client for the server so I can find it remotely.

I have tried DynDNS (http://www.kana.homeip.net/), but it's flaky and it runs as an application so I assume I have to be logged in for it to be running and work. Is this correct?

I would like to find something that runs as a native service on the machine so that as soon as it boots, the dynamic updates will happen, without me having to log in.

Am I on the right track here? Is there a really good, solid client that you all have used before that is KNOWN GOOD and won't leak memory and do other nasty things to the server?

I am using dyndns.org for my solution. Just need to find a good updater client!

Thanks in advance!

Lets try DNSer

by dave In reply to Please help - need good d ...

Since nobody replied I did extensive research on the web, and found a number of clients. The one that most closely matched my needs is called DNSer. Runs as a service, no GUI, very straightforward and simple. Got it installed and running, I'll report back after it's seen a few weeks of use.

If anyone can recommend another client please post.

Lazy

Thats why there was no reply. You were being lazy.

Extensive Research -you should be doing that yourself anyway, not asking and then being given.

Glad you found something that seems to work. If not, forget these other guys with their adverts & just contact the ISP currently in use.

A managed service works better

by sean.longworth In reply to Please help - need good d ...

Dave,

I work for UltraDNS. The world's leader in mangaged DNS. Our global network is designed to provide better management and performance than a local solution. If you are looking for a proven solution, we are a good route.

Hope this helps,

Sean
