What do you actually mean by

but doesn't detect any DVD's

That it just remains blank and can not see the DVD or that you can not play the DVD.

IF it is happening with a manufactured DVD is it only confined to that 1 DVD or to every DVD Movie that you attempt to place into the unit?

If you are trying recorded DVD's have you tried placing a manufactured DVD into the drive and see if it works then. Some DVD Readers can not read recorded DVD's but will quite happily work with recorded CD's.

Also is this in a computer or a DVD Reading unit for something like a TV?

If this is a DVD Drive in a computer what Make & Model is the drive?

Please Help - Optorite DVD Drive DD0405 can play Cd but not DVD

by ProBro In reply to What do you actually mean ...

As I mentioned, It cannot play or rather detect "any" Dvds on my computer. I have a laptop too and "all" Dvds work well there. The make and model of my dvd drive in my computer is Optorite DD0405. When i insert a dvd the drive light flashes for sometime and then stops. Whether it is a data dvd or movie or windows xp installation disk it all doesn't work.

Replace the DVD Drive then

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Please Help - Optorite DV ...

Even a NB Drive is relatively cheap at $169.00 AU while a conventional DVD Burner is only about $85.00 AU but I must point out that an XP Install Disc is a CD not a DVD.

So if you are unable to read the XP Install CD that's even more reason to replace the drive ASAP.
