Plenty of updates, but...

By brifd1 ·
while my PC will download them, it won't install them...even if I save them to the desktop and attempt to run them that way. Any ideas as to why and how I get out of this predicament???

Check if your user account have administrative rights on a computer or you have a program that it blocks any changes of o.s.

Another possibility is that your firewall or Spy Sweeper or similar may be blocking them. I think SpySweeper's questions are rather vague and can lead to blocking something you shouldn't.
Do a manual download of the updates or just one, or do a search for it on your C:\drive after downloading, disconnect from the Internet. Then turn off firewall, Uncheck everything in MSConfig Startup and all Non MS Services, reboot and try installing.

What if any error messages do you get?

If you get an unable to open or write to file error, you might have missing system files.

I had a problem where an uninstall of a program blew away my C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot sub-folders and updates refused to install.

I was able to recover by copying the files over from another PC running the same version and patch status.
