Plug&Play device not recognised Win98SE

By sid.sewell ·
Basically, I tried to install a Yamaha UW500 sound studio, I tested the device by mapping a system sound to route through the device and it seemed to work. I then tried to run some of the supplied yamaha software, and my laptop locked up, now despite uninstalling the device from device manager, my laptop does not recognise it as new hardware when I plug it back in to the USB port, and I cannot re-install it either, also Windows will not shut down properly (I've got the fix for that), and whenever I click on Control Panel/sounds my laptop displays the wait icon and sounds does not load.

Plug&Play device not recognised Win98SE

I'm not saying this is the same by a long shot, but I had a sound card that wouldn't recognize originally. I had to take it out of the system, bring the system up without it in, turn off the comp, then put in the sound card, and when it came up it suddenly found it. You might want to try something to that effect. Could also be that the system is trying to share the IRQ on the USB.

I had a problem with a USB device before and this is how it was resolved.

Check Device Manager go to Other Devices and delete any devices found. Re-boot and see if it recognizes the USB device now.

Good Luck...
