    Point to Point T

    Locked

    by mrgdstuff ·

My company is placing a point to point T between sites. The group on the other end asekd me for a external IP address. Why would i need that if its a point to point T and it does not go over the internet ?
I would assume that they would just need the IP address of the router on my end and I the IP of the router on their end.

I agree that there is no need for an “external” IP in the sense of a public IP, but I’m wondering if they are just asking for the gateway address to configure workstations (that would be the network/router interface) and calling that an “external” IP.

A complete point-to-point T1 will have four IP addresses associated with it (one for the CSU interface at each end and one for each network interface at each end).

But for routing purposes, all they need to know is what gateway address to use to reach your subnet.
