Pointer response problem

By effigacy ·
Every so often on my Dell optiplex running XP Pro the response to clicking the left mouse button is to REMOVE currency from the window clicked. The ALT+Tab switching is also affected. Usually rebooting fixes the problem, but I have been unable to identify a trigger. Can anyone help, please?

"REMOVE Currency from the window clicked"?????? Are you in excel??? Please provide more info. Check mouse properties to see what left click is assigned to.

Please see clarification above. One key aspect is that it is a problem that comes and goes with no apparent trigger or solution. I shall have to try swapping the KVM cables to eliminate a fault with the switch when I get a moment.

Much of the time it works fine, then suddenly clicking the mouse in a window makes it not the current one. Doesn't seem to matter which program is running, although I suspect either MS Internet Explorer and/or Outlook are usually running.
The only other possible factor is the mouse is running through a KVM switch, but this works fine for the other PC and the Dell is still responding in its own way when the fault is manifesting itself.
