Policies Folder. This is a hard one!

By learnasigo ·
Okay.. I had to pull my contents of the sysvol share from backup. After I did that the Policies folder under \\server\winnt\sysvol\sysvol\domain\policies

changes to Policies_NTFRS_cf89d80d and group policy doesn't work.

If I change the folder to just "Policies" group policy works fine.. but it changes it back to the Policies_NTFRS... after a short time??

anyone have ANY idea what is causing this?? I've checked the permissions and that looks correct.. is there something else I need to do???

This is covered in the technet article at;en-us;328492

(remove any spaces from that url)

I've only skimmed thru it but you apparently need to stop the frs service on any other dc's when doing an authoritative restore.....

The operating system gives each policy a unique hex number

So the default policy would be say {2D67D3F8-54DE-4171-85C2-643C2B75436D} and other policies you create would be similarly named.

I find if you rename these policies they will not work.

So I surmise that something has changed since the last backup.
