Before implementing the use of remote control software (i.e. Norton pcAnywhere, VNC, etc.) in my company, my boss requested that I write a policy about the utilization of this software. The main issue among employees is “Big Brother”.
Our primary use of the software is for IT to remotely support computer users. The software will also be used for training purposes and collaboration among employees (mostly managers). However, there are concerns about IT personnel and managers (users of the client part of the software) potentially using the software for unethical/unauthorized purposes, such as spying on or harassing other employees.
Personally, I feel these issues should be covered under the general privacy and harassment policies. It seems odd to have such a policy specifically aimed at the use of a specific type of software.
I was wondering if anyone else experienced a similar situation. If anyone has implemented a written policy about the use of remote control software, I?d like to read it. Any other comments concerning this issue would also be appreciated.
