POP in Linux

By axes12 ·
May I know how to start/configure the POP services for mail on my Linux RedHat 7 server ?

I tried to telnet to port 110 to the server but
there's no reply. SMTP is fine though....

Thanks.

usaully by default pop is disabled. you need to go to /etc/xinetd.d and edit ipop3. there should be a line disable = yes, change the yes to a no.
then run "/etc/init.d/xinetd restart" or reboot the computer.

By default pop is disabled. Make sure you have imap installed (and the dependencies) which has the pop3 daemon. Edit your sendmail.mc - comment out DAEMON_OPTIONS. Look for instruction there. Remake your sendmail.cf with m4 (instructions there at the top of sendmail.mc). Also this opens up your server for relaying. Make sure you are tightened down for spam. Also you have to punch through your firewall on port 110 if you have a firewall configured.
