Pop Up Ads

By gbalonek ·
RE: Windows XP Home
Browser: Interent Explorer

Recently, I have been getting pop-up ads. I use Norton Internet Security and have Spybot and Lavasoft's Adware. In some cases, Norton will block the Ad, but a blank window will still popup. I have checked the Control Panel to see if any unusual programs installed.

Any ideas?

A few more things would be to go to start - run - type MSCONFIG - click the startup tab. Then check to see if any unknown programs are running. I would also download and run a program called CW Shredder. This finds browser hijackers.

Have you downloaded or added any new software, this will allow popups to get past internet security

In the mean time run the spy ware programs and to include Counter Spy which is very good utility that you can get for a trial run,be cautious removing any registry keys that is listed after scan

1.Check for the newest version of adaware SE
2. also download the Beta spyware from
Some malware is very hard to clean..if these tools dont work hijackthis from scan it and create a log. Copy the log to for advice on which items to delete. Do not delete any items without checking the log and/or the forum.
Dont forget to update the programs before running
