POP3 Connector Manager - Error 1232

By ebroughton ·
I am running SBS2003 with Exchange Server 2003. I came into work today, and I noticed on my server some error logs:

"The downloading process for mailbox <username [server.domain.local]> was ended with one or more errors."

"Error during POP3 transaction. The error is 1232, network location cannot be reached."

The weird part is, I received the first error message for all of my users. Email is still flowing in and out of the network without any problem from what I can see. However, the process might be moving slower than usual.

I am also getting shadow copies errors.. not sure if this is related or not.

Even though as of right now the email is functioning, I feel that if action isn't taken it could get worse. Could somebody please tell me a way to fix this?

My take

My guess is that one point in the network between the two servers is failing intermitenly. This causes the server to lose access to the server it was talking to, but the server transmitting may not be aware of the failure. This can occur in Frame relay network when you get congestion issues.

Shadow copies can be a consequence of that issue.

I would have the network guys take a look at it during the transferes.
