POP3 Service and Domain Accounts

by triathlete1981 . Updated 18 years, 9 months ago

We have a server running Sharepoint 2007. It’s a test server that had been promoted to domain controller of a test domain (sharepoint.dfp.com). After verifying that everything worked (workflows, tasks, InfoPath forms, etc.), we demoted the server from DC status and joined it to our current, real work domain (dfp.com).

After doing this, the POP3 mailboxes that had been made under the test domain no longer work. So, I tried creating mailboxes for the real domain users. But, even though I was logged in as the local administrator on the server, I was given an Access Denied message. Logged on as the domain admin, got the same message, Access Denied.

The complication (don’t know if it’s an actual complication) is that there is a real dfp.com domain that has email for that domain hosted by an outside service. After demoting the server, I deleted the previous POP3 mailbox of sharepoint.dfp.com and created a new one called dfp.com. It’s under this dfp.com mailbox that I can not create new mailboxes.

So, my question is, how can I get the Access Denied error to stop? And, can I create mailboxes for our current dfp.com users? And, since the server is a different machine from our DC, how do I do that? Finally, is dfp.com on this POP3 server interfering with the outside service that hosts our dfp.com domain for the outside world?

Notes: both servers are running Server 2003 and have all updates installed as of today.
