Popup blocker indentification

By dbonnette ·
I have a popup blocker that consistantly blocks popups. I want to disable this blocker but I can't find the source of the blocker. When it blocks an add, a small "orange colored fist" icon temporarly shows up next to the mouse pointer and a sound is generated. I can't find the source of this popup blocker. Does anyone know what program generates this icon when it blocks an add? I have disabled the Windows XP add blocker but this blocker still blocks adds. How do I identify it and disable it?

It sounds like so many, if you have a google or yahoo toolbar, they block popups, goto the tool bar options and you can turn them off.

If you have spybot search and destroy that blocks popups go into the application and edit the settings to stop blocking popup's.

If you are using firefox as a browser that blocks popups go into the firefox settings and turn it off there.

Your firwall can also block popups check your firewall settings.

If you clicked on a popup advertising blocking popups you probably have a popup blocker installed against your knowlage, and after thirty days of blocking popups a message will apear asking for money for the popupblocker to continue working.

A modified hosts file can also block popups.

Popups are bad even if the Aqua Team Hunger Force makes them funny.

Also Anti Virus programes can also block popups, but don't turn the anti virus off.

Some times to bypass the popup blocker you simple hold down the "ctrl" key then "left mouse click" the link you want to popup this is thebest option because evil pops are still blocked but you still haev the choice of viewing them.

Who is your ISP? It makes me want to say Earthlink but I can't really remember. Let us know so we can help you.

You might check in your add and remove programs to see what pop up blocker programs you have installed if any and if not then it is more than likely installed with your ISP software.

Open your Web Browser and check for Pop-up blocker option under the menu items. from there you can select "Turn-off Pop-up Blocker". If you are using IE as a Web Browser then this option is under the Tools menu, visible as Pop-up Blocker.

Try this option and this should solve your problem.

Did you learn how to disable "orange fist"?

by rwellsnm In reply to Popup blocker indentifica ...

I have the same problem and believe there is a spurious pop-up blocker overriding the normal browser software. One of your responder's suggestion of using the control key works, but I'd still like to get rid of the "orange fist.

Thanks
