Portable doc format-Adobe printing in Xp

By highlander718 ·
This happens lately on my Xp machines, whenever trying to print an adobe document I get the "Portable Document Format has encountered a proble and needs to close.."
I was looking into adobe's web page, and i can see a bunch of other frustrated people posting the same kind of error, due to some recent Xp updates ? , but no response or solution.
Anyone of you know what this is all about ?

Try taking PDFWriter.dot out of the Word Startup folder.
Some have suggested reinstalling Acrobat after installing Office.

Reinstalling Acrobat, was the first thing. I don't find any pdfwriter.dot or Word Startup folder on my system ...
Thanks,

Look under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup This should be the default location for Word startup files. If you installed Office in a different location, it will be in that folder.

I'm sorry, I'm looking for a specific problem here, I tried most of the basic things stated there even before going myself to the adobe web page (as stated in my original message) where of course I found all this general info. But when looking for specifics for this error I only found posted messages on the same exact issue, with no answers.
Thanks for your help, I'm just trying to make it clear that I'm not looking for basic troubleshooting here, but for someone who maybe had the same problem and had it resolved. Of course I can reformat the harddrive, reinstall only Win and Adobe...but no time for this things.

You probably have downloaded the most recent version of acrobat if not version 5.0.1 has a known issue with Windows XP. The current release is 5.5 there's supposed to be fixes??

Uninstall all older versions.

Ran across simular problem but not the same error. Acrobat and printing from the internet caused the same error. I guess the issue was between XP and either the printer and/or USB drivers. After updating to USB 2.0 driver and reinstalling the printer and acrobat both issues was resolved.

Maybe no help but perhaps you may think of something to try.
Good luck.

I was running acrobat4, not 5.0.1. I had problems downloadin acrobat from their site (page not available, voucher error ??). Anyway I finally did it from the alternate text version and looks like working.
Thanks for all your help, appreciate it,sorry I closed the previous answers I should've split the reward points to all of you, for your time.....
You know what, I'm opening a "dummy question" with the title containing your names and whoever post a "dummy answer" by Friday gets the points.
Just for fun :-))
