Possible Hardware Problem - Need Advice

By dragonsrage99 ·
hi i am having a problem with a PC - its a new machine (well reconditioned) i have installed windows 98 on the machine and then installed oracle reports, after the oracle reboot the system starts to freeze up and stop responding, i have tried the same with windows ME, and intalling office - but it seems after the initial windows install any other program seems to freeze/lockup the system - i have tried downloading all the windows patches from microsoft then installing some software but to the same result - could this be down to a hardware problem - such as the motherboard running to fast for the software or vice versa - i know i have come accross this problem before but i cannot remember what was causing this and how to fix it

any help would be greatlu apprieciated..

Thanks

Possible Hardware Problem - Need Advice

1. Are you closing ALL running programs before installing the software?
This includes EVERY icon in the system tray, and most of what is still listed in task manager. (Alt-Ctrl-Del)

2. Is the CPU speed detected / set properly?
I have seenmanya socket A motherboard that does not set the FSB and multiplier correctly.

3. How much RAM do you have?
W98 has a known problem with over 511MB of RAM.
This problem is VERY configuration dependant.

4. Make sure that your device drivers areup to date.

Hi,

From what i know, Oracle has some issues running on a P4 system, by the way if you're using a P4, i would suggest that you get some help from the Oracle site.

Roland.
