Possible Specs for New Gaming Desktop

By Tommy ·
Hello,

I have been searching far and wide for a gaming desktop for a VERY long time. I have come across a desktop that I built (on a site), that could be the machine i get. The specs are:

CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 Ghz

Graphics card: GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB OC

Motherbord: GIGABYTE GA-73VM-S2 G33

System RAM: mushkin Low-Latency Gaming 4GB DDR2 800

as far as the hard drive, power supply, and all that other lame stuff, i have it figured out. My question is basically will this machine support pretty much every game on the market today (crysis, conan, wow, etc.) Or should i go with an of-the-shelf desktop. Forgot to add this cost, which is $999.99

any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated,

Tommy

With the problems that Nvidia is currently having it is probably a good idea to keep clear of their Video Chip Sets till they have sorted out their problems and released new Chip Sets.

As for the Lame Stuff like a Power Supply I don't think you realize just how important these are as the wrong one will cause the entire computer to be a pile of Land Fill in under 2 hours from construction.

You also need to know that a Quad Core CPU will require a OS to make use of all 4 cores so if you want to use Windows that means one of the upper versions of Vista not XP. XP can only address 2 CPU's/Cores.

Also with 4 GIG of RAM installed you need to be looking at a 64 Bit OS as there is no Windows 32 Bit OS that can make use of 4 Gigs of RAM they are unable to address that much.

I am glad you went the intel processors even tho I am an AMD kinda guy i really really hate their quad core range, they are bad.

Although i dislike how you think the Power Supply is the boring part of the machine. I think its the exciting part for the obvious reason of its cheap and nasty bye bye parts. I recommend the HX1000W from corsair, rather expensive but brilliant,

This machine should run your new games I have a similar build that runs everything but i also have to 9800 GTX 512MB cards running in SLI.

I also have 8GB of RAM but i only have a dual core processor aswell. The main thing to remember is if going with a 64 bit OS be prepared to have to do alot of research and work to get some of the hardware components working, it is painful.

And also with the HDD get a big one they are cheap enough
