Possible to copy DVD to CD ?

By bharri2 ·
Is it possible to copy data (movies, etc.) from a DVD to a CD-R or CD-RW? If so, What are the steps, and are any special converters required ?

Thanks,

If you will use MPEG 4 format it is possible to fit movie on the CD. There is slight reduction in quality though.

It is possible. You will need to be able to extract and digitize (rip) the video from the DVD and store it on your hard drive. The hardware you have now may be able to do this but I don't know what you have. You will then need software to convert the video to VCD format. There are plenty of free programs available to do that. Then just burn it to CD-R/W

Answer 3 does have a point but the solution is simple. Two 80 minute/700MB CDs will hold 160 minutes of video. Not very many movies are longer than that.

DVD contains up to 4.8 Gb, and CD-ROM only up to 680 Mb. So, how can you copy DVD to CD?

DVD and CD-ROMs have different filing systems, this is why a DVD can hold gigs of information. There are DVD burners out on the market today for $500 to $1000 which, I'm sure with the correct software, would allow you to copy DVD movies, without anyloss of quality. That is the true answer. Although you could follow the suggestions of converting to a different format, there is only one fool-proof, loos-proof way of copying a DVD disk.
Go to CDW, or any search engine to look for DVD recorders if you are going to go that route.
Good Luck.

Yes, IT IS POSSIBLE...If you really want to know how to do this, be prepared to read, read, read. There is not a simple 2 step process, no special hardware other than a fast processor, all the software to do this is available via the following link. http://www.divx-digest.com/index.html
