POST TROUBLE

by gunny0629 . Updated 24 years, 2 months ago

Duty Experts,

My neighbor recently performed a OS upgrade on their Compaq 2254 from W95 to W98. However, since then, they’ve been unable to perform a normal boot. During the POST, I’ve encountered the following system errors:

System Bios shadowed
0251 System CMOS checksum bad, and HIMEM.sys is missing.

I’ve attempted on several occasions to reset their BIOS by removing their battery for 30+
mins… hoping it would reset to the factory default, but no such luck. I’ve tried their restore disk, in a attempt to restore their system to it’s original state… but whenever the reboot occurs, the system locks up… with aforementioned errors.

I’ve attempted to use my W98 start up floppy, but I get the following error:

Windows registry or System.ini file refers to file that no longer exists (vnetbios.vxd). Is there anything that can be performed to restore this system to it’s original state?

Thanks in advance for your assistance
