Power down hangups

By lzamber ·
I have Windows XP SP2 installed on 18 remote computers using a VPN connection into our network. We are experiencing hangups when trying to reboot on the Dell Optiplex 170L series. On the Windows site it explains SP1 resolved this issue, yet we continue to experience this problem even with SP2.
Is there a patch available to resolve these power down issues?

Have you updated the BIOS on the Dell computers? The latest BIOS version is A07 from 2/21/05.

Also check to see if there are updates for drivers on the machines while you're at it.

Hope that helps!

Check out the above web site. Many things other than BIOS that you can check. It could be a driver that is causing the issue as well, expecially since all the computers are the same. Some other questions below.

Are they part of a domain, or just a workgroup? Do they have mapped network drives? Are you using Windows VPN Client or 3rd Party? Have you checked their IP configurations?

Hope that helps!
