Power Managemnet and Sleep mode

By brian ·
Greetings,

I have system that doesn't always recover from "Sleep" mode properly. Im using a MS Internet Keyboard. Frequently, when I move the mouse, or press the Sleep button to wake up the PC, I just get the standard Windows green desktop. But it's blank. No icons, no task bar, nothing. Ocasionally I get a GPF IPF involving MPREXE. It usually leads to having to do a hard reset.
In addition, my power management settings won't stay set. Once changed, after a reboot, when I check them, they are back to the defaults. (20 Min, 15 Min, 30 Min). I have tried changing the settings then saving the profile, but it still doesn't stay.
I am running Win98 SE with all of the shut down patches installed. The system is a Biostar MK7A motherboard with 192 MB RAM and a 900 MHz Athlon Slot A.

Thanks,
Brian

Power Managemnet and Sleep mode

One sure way to disable the power settings in your computer is to do so from the bios. There should be a section in there that has to do with your power options and set them in there, save the changes and see if that helps. Also, mprexe usually has to do with your temp directory and your password lists. Restart your computer and keep pressing F8 while it is booting. It should give you boot options and you need to choose command prompt only. Once there go to C:\windows and type del *.pwl and that will clear your password list. Then go back to C:\windows and type cd temp. Once there type del *.*
Then type cd.. to get out of the temp directory so you can delete it. Then type rd temp. After that, recreate it. Type md temp. Then restart the computer and see if that fixes your mprexe error.
