Power problem???

By caddywompus81 ·
Ok i am running an AMD Anthlon 800, GF4 Ti4200, SB Live!Value, 512MB RAM, DVD Rom, and CD-R/RW. I just installed XP but i think i am having power management issues. I am only running the computer off of 200w power supply (thats how it was...haven't had money to upgrade till now). Do i need to upgrade my power supply?

Power problem???

by TheChas In reply to Power problem???

Between the graphics card, and the amount of Ram, combined with the drives, I would install at least a 300 Watt power supply.

Just make sure that the continuous output power totals 300 Watts. Many of the cheap 350 and 400 watt power supplies I'veseen lately have been peak rated.

To calculate the total power output, multiply each voltage by the maximum CONTINUOUS current, and add them all together.
(ignore the - sign for the -5 and -12 volt supplies)

I don't set up any systems with less than 300 Watts anymore, and often step up to 400 Watts.

While they were out of stock the last time I looked, the Computer Geeks www.compgeeks.com
often have a Leadman Powmax 300 Watt supply that is a true 300 watts for under $25 plus shipping.

If there is a computer show in your area, they often have dealers selling supplies for about the same price.
