power supply 5volt vsb

where do I ck for the + 5 vsb on an atx pwr suppy?I have removed the pwr supply and am checking on the bench.

Here is a link to the ATX power supply connector pin-out.

The main 5 volt lines are normally red.

The 5 volt standby power is purple.

There are a couple of articles in the TR archives on testing power supplies.

While I have not checked this myself for the 5 volt standby line, for the normal 5 volt power, the 5 and 12 volt lines MUST have a minimum load attached for the power supply to start up and operate.

With a little bit of looking, you can find ATX power supply test boxes for under $10 (US).

CAUTION:
Unless you are a trained technician, do not open the power supply case. Lethal voltages are present on many parts in any PC power supply.
