power supply problem

I have a gateway computer windows 2000 i turn the system on the power supply comes on then it turns off but the fan is running. i can run internet only the drive is ok the cd and dvd dont work, and monitor doesnt work, it a 17 inch lcd the green light on monitor comes on. i have disconnected drives and same thing happens even the video card.. need some help.. thank gloria

The problem seems to be ur motherboard. Also try checking the memory by inserting new ones.

Your MotherBoard is grounded;

disasemble the MB and check for direct contact to the case surface, also, when installing try not to force MB or bend it since it could cause shorts.

Also check the electrolytic caps around the CPU for any signs of leaking, bulging tops or can blown off the works.

buy a new power supply. 450Watts should make all your devices happy.
