Powerbook Not Loading OS X

I have a Powerbook G4 Titanium that wont load (boot from) original OS9 or OS X discs .The discs work on my G3,the drive works as I have Ubuntu 6.06 loaded on it from discs.I also have a restore image disc (backup) that wont boot either.

Will it boot from the Ubuntu live CD-Rom? If not, it sounds like
the CD-reader itself is misbehaving. There are a couple of
alternatives to try.

At startup, hold down the "option" [alt] key and slip the System
CD-ROM into the slot to force it to be read. After a while, there
should be a screen that includes the System Folder on the CD-
ROM as a boot option.

If not, try the same routine with an external FireWire drive.
[PCMCIA and USB are not options--thanks, Apple.]

Or try holding down "X" at startup.
