PowerPoint files in Outlook Express

By HereInOz ·
May be I am not looking in the right place, but I have a customer who is running Windows XP, with Outlook Express as the email client.

PowerPoint Viewer 2003 is installed to enable them to view pps files emailed to them by well meaning friends.

The interesting bit is that while pps files are correctly registered to the PowerPoint Viewer application, and will correctly open when double clicked in Windows Explorer, or on the desktop, when they try to open the files as an attachment in Outlook Express, they get the message that there is no application associated with this file, and the usual helpful information about setting this up in Folder View, which, of course, it already is.

If the file is saved from Outlook Express to a folder in the file system, then double clicking has the desired effect, the PowerPoint Show opens, just that it doesn't happen when trying to open the file as an attachment in Outlook Express.

Also, it is not the setting in Tools > Options about not opening any attachments that may be a virus, either - already been there. Anyone got any ideas about this one.

Hope you can help.

You may want to try this fix:;en-us;842546

even though it's for IE, it may help your OE problem since they are such integral parts of each other.

Unfortunately that wasn't the answer, and I can't find the solution, so the user will just have to put up with it.
