    Practical Use of Auditcon

This is a NDS security question, but it falls under NetWare’s forum topics. We have “Auditcon” (NDS container auditing) turned on in our mixed NW 4.11 and NW 5.0 tree. Does anyone know if there are SDK hooks or APIs for setting up automated report generation? I need to export daily “auditcon.logs” to “report” format without filters. (Meaning all information gathered for NDS security transactions) This text data will then be imported to an Oracle database.

As any who have used “NW’s Auditcon” knows, one must currently login as “auditor,” open the desired context, and export the log manually. It takes a long time to decompress the “online log” to a flat “report format” file.
I’m trying to create a time-dependent utility that can login nightly as “auditor,” then perform the extraction.

Novell says they have no immediate plans to upgrade “Auditcon” and may even drop it, which is a shame. It produces the needed info, it’s just a pain to get it out.

The API’s required for NDS access can be found on the CD Rom included with the “NDS” Developer’s Guide. Novell publication #4557-4, ISBN #0-7645-4557-4.

These API’s open the entire schema to application developers. They, however, do not pose a security risk if your developers have limited RW rights.
