Pre-built vs Build your own PC
by llockard128 · about 5 months ago
What would be better for someone with little experience in PCs I was wondering which one I should look into. I have looked into both and just wanted another opinion on the matter, thank you.

When I got my first PC, it was 100% prebuilt. I believe if you have little to no experience with the inner components of computers, it’s better to buy one prebuilt. And if any issues may arise, or you’re ready to upgrade a component, you can then poke around the computer as you please and learn about it in the process.

Its 100% better to buy a prebuild cause you can always come back when you have the experience and upgrade it later.

But I want performance and things that I need not what some builder is willing to supply as a Budget system. For instance the CPU’s I buy generally cost more than any system in the shops that come built and I get exactly what I want from CPU TYPE and Speed to a top of the range M’Board and high end Power Supplies not to mention top range cases and I can use them till they die 7 or 8 years latter without any issues.
I do not have to make any changes to my systems because I buy the best and max it out so I know it’s going to be around for a while .
The closest thing I have a a prebuilt computer is a NB that has had it’s CPU replaced to the fastest it can carry, As much RAM as the M’Board can hold and the biggest HDD that the Chip-set of the m’Board will support so short of something failing I have no changes I can make to the thing and the one I’m currently using was originally loaded with XP Pro original. Still as fast today as it was when new but I paid the price for those specifications as it was not in any way in the price range of NB’s in Shops .
But with the current generation of Computers you need to know what you are doing simply sitting the CPU in the wrong way can destroy the M’Board and buying any RAM will not work. You tend to need Matched RAM Sets for all 4 sockets that are at the upper limit of what the M’Board can support or you’ll get timing issues with 2 Matched Pairs of RAM even if they are from the very best maker.
Unless you know what you are doing buying a prebuilt is the way to go it’s defiantly cheaper and you can use it as son as you open the box and you’ll never have any worries about incomparable components like Video Cards not being compatible with the M’Board or having the wrong supplementary Power Connections so when you press the on button nothing happens. Just a hint my Desktop worked perfectly with the video card and dual monitors till I applied the last series of patches then the second monitor got no signal and remained blank till I replaced the Video Card.
My Desktop also insists that it is not up-gradable to Windows 11 because it doesn’t have sufficient Computing power with a i7 CPU 64 GIGs or RAM and a multi Core Video Card. Windows continues to tell you lies.

Curious…what generation i7 CPU? What TPM? This little Dell Latitude 3190 upgraded to latest Win11 24H2 without any issues. May need to check your UEFI BIOS to make sure you have TPM 2.0 enabled!

And the video card is a replacement from the latest patch that killed one screen on my system so maybe 6 months old. Doesn’t matter it’s just Windows will not auto update to 11 but runs the downloaded update fine.
As I say Glenn Windows tells lies and I do not believe it as far as I’m allowed to throw it.
