Pre tag slows down internet explorer

Using the pre-tag (preformatted) slows down the internet explorer to quite unusable pace.

Netscape opens them up fast and scrolling and copy/paste is fast.

Couldn’t find any hint on MS:s pages.

Has someone solved this problem otherwise thanusing netscape?
