    Prebuilt or Building your own?

Relative wants to buy a PC. They kept bugging me about a prebuilt or if building their own was better. I told them I would ask the internet so here I am asking. They gave me a budget of $2,000, so with $2,000 would it be better for me to tell them to build their own or prebuilt, and if you know of a good prebuilt please feel free to share.

Both can be fine and both can be bad. None is inherently better than the other.

But I like what you can do at dell.com: order a pre-build PC (with warranty) that you can configure as you want (CPU, RAM, OS, Graphic, Storage). The XPS-desktop goes up to 64 GB RAM, 4 TB storage, an RTX 4080 graphics card, a 14th generation i9 and Windows 11 Pro. That’s not the cheapest they can make for you, of course; it’s kind of overkill for 99.9% (or more) of desktop users. If this configuration is more than $2000 it’s up to your relative to go down on some of these components, according to his requirements and needs. But it’s quite well possible he’s very happy with something else, as birdmantd wrote about.

For instance, I bought a new, prebuilt system from Best Buy for about $1200 about 4 months ago. It does everything I need and more. It is expandable if I need to add additional components. My latest system is manufactured by iBuypowerPC and I have also purchased a prebuilt system from CyberpowerPC in the past. I have been very satisfied with these systems and would recommend either manufacturer.
