I'm have trouble with the display of responses here, have asked support what's up and been told it's working as expected. This is not making sense to me, so I thought I'd ask if others have the same issue.

I have set my preferences to display 100 responses and to show them expanded. However, when I go to an item it shows only three responses and they are collapsed. I know I can hit the "show all" button and they will show, and this is the response I'm getting to my query. The response doesn't mention preferences either.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

I wrote a response

but it didn't take. *GRRRRRR*

Anyway, I'm not sure about the thing you report, but it could fit the pattern of a new dumbass feature added to TR just this last month.

Instead of showing the responses to a blog like a thread (according to user Preferences), the default is to show a set of four digests of the thread: One listing Staff Picks OUT OF CONTEXT. One listing most popular posts OUT OF CONTEXT. One for showing most recen posts OUT OF CONTEXT. And one listing posts from the viewer's contacts, you guessed it, OUT OF CONTEXT.
The whole thing is an exercise in complete and utter uselessness.

The link to show the thread as, you know, a thread, is a tiny little thing, and counterintuitively placed.

So, anyway, I don't like that, was that apparent?

Ansu, you're being unclear again.

Were those posts OUT OF CONTEXT? I wish you had included that detail

Why ask why when all you have to do is...

is take a look at the Power Users to the right of this page. Until you see some names you recognize, the web devs are likely -plugin whatever suits you of the following;
1.) asleep
2.) on vacation
3.) clueless
4.) apathetic
5.) All of the above

At this rate, they soon may very well join Norton for longest run of poor performance while remaining in situ.

I vote for 'misguided'.

I believe you're missing something.

I've also noticed this recently. I think what your missing is the circumstances under which you're seeing this. More specifically, I think you're seeing it only when you look at the comments at the bottom of an article. If you go to the Discussion page directly from the Discussions list, instead of going to the originating article, you should still be seeing replies arranged by your preferences.

Sounds Right

But why would one expect it to work differently in the two scenarios. It's also not clearly described on the prefs page.

Curses I can't reply to anything at the moment

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Preferences

But as to why you expect it to work differently they have been messing with the site yet again and now when you open a Article/Blog you get a selection of responses not them all.

So if the Article/Blog has been active for a while you should see the latest post and or the Highest Voted/Rated Posts all Collapsed somewhere around the 3 to 5 mark of posts but that seems to depend on what the Blog is and how new it is.

Of course if there have been no Rated Posts you just get to see the Latest/Newest Posts to the Discussion.

When you click on View All Posts it should appear as you set your defaults to appear but when you look at comments below the Blog you just get a Teaser of what's been added.

Well I could be completely wrong but that is what it's looking like to me at least.

Your self-control is impressive... I get too ranty.
But while I was reading your calm description of the problem, I figured out how we can/will subvert the feature. We're more than a little likely to vote up the most off-topic posts in the thread - that's apt to confuse them!
