Presidential comparison quiz

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Tony Blair a set of inexpensive and useless (to Tony Blair 's UK video formatting) DVDs, when Tony Blair had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a
minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current on their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive?

Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 10 weeks -- so you'll have three years to come up with an answer.

Yes. It's an appropriate show of respect in that nation. Does the King of Saudi Arabia come here and shake the President's hand? I think so...

Not exactly

In Japan, perhaps, where bowing is a common greeting practiced by the entire population, but one where people might bow to each other.

In Saudi Arabia, bowing to the King acknowledges a subservient position to their king.

Heads of state are seen as peers, no one below another. Bowing is unheard of between heads of state, and is even considered a violation of protocol. And among the dozen or more heads of state at that meeting, while handshakes abound between them, Barack Obama was the only one who bowed. Even the Saudi press reported it as strange and out of place.

Now I don't believe Barack Obama bowed to show that he is subservient to the Saudi King, but rather because he's unpolished on the world stage. After all, I don't think proper greetings for Kings who are also heads of state was covered in Obama's Community Organizer 101 class. It was a gaffe, no doubt about it - and one that he surely won't commit again.

the video is all over youtube, as are his handlers lying their asses off, assuming the cultists of Obama will believe that it was not really a bow.

All they had to do was say it was a historic moment and he got caught up in it. Nope, lies instead.

Quite right

Probably he was pumped up, not having met any kings before, and was trying to make a good impression with the elderly guy. Protocol was not on his mind, and he is unlikely to slip up again, as he has been so painfully reminded about his gaffe.

Really?
