So. I’ve just finished watching the first Presidential debate, from somewhere in Mississippi.
McCain appears to have tunnel vision re: Iraq, along with real strength as regards the value of implication on the world stage. Fiscally, it looks to me like McCain is in the pocket of big business, meaning (to me) that his domestic fiscal policy will be ‘business as usual’, Republican style.
Obama appears to have a decent understanding of the realities involved in maintaining the respect of both allies and enemies in a changing world, along with what I think is the correct notion that Iraq is not half the problem Al Qaeda is. Fiscally, he didn’t present much in the way of detail, but his fiscal concerns appear to be aligned with the fiscal concerns of a vanishing middle class and small business.
I can’t say that either one of them ‘won’ the debate. It did however, look to me as though McCain dodged questions a bit more than Obama. If I had to vote tomorrow, I’d still vote 3rd party.
I’m curious to know if others watched, and what those watchers thought.

I was disappointed to see little to no mention of issues related to things like the child sex trade in Cambodia, or the raging inhumanity of the Somalian regime upon its own people. Among a host of other ‘humanitarian’ issues in which I think a ‘super power’ should be engaged.
