"Press F1 to enter Setup" msg upon boot?

By azdavid99 ·
I'm about to go to a co-workers house to help her figure out why she gets this message every time she boots up her PC. (actually, once in a great while the message won't appear) Because I haven't seen it yet, I may have the message slightly incorrect but I'm sure you've all seen this at one time or another.
I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue. I'm leaning towards either hardware or the BIOS since Windows hasn't yet loaded. I was thinking of pulling cards to isolate it. Before jumping into the project though I thought I might get some tips from you nice people first.
Thanks in advance for any help. Dave

"Press F1 to enter Setup" msg upon boot?

by SyscoKid In reply to "Press F1 to enter Setup" ...

Is that all it says? I usually see this accompanied by another message such as "Keyboard error" or "CMOS checksum error" which gives more of a clue to the cause.

Does she also see the computer clock losing time? If the battery is going, the BIOSmight be losing the hard drive settings, requiring her to go into setup on booting, though I admit I've never seen a bad m=battery manifest itself this way before.

Sorry I can't be more definitive without more information.

I asked my coworker to be more specific on the error msg. She said there is a msg concerning the battery. She also noticed that her clock is losing time. Good call. Sounds exactly like the CMOS battery.
Thanks, Dave
