Prevent Flash Games from running in MS Excel

By acquarianblue ·
This has been a security issue and has caused a major headache in our office. after blocking access to games installed by windows, streaming media from windows media player and AIM, now they are playing games through excel. There have been websites offering flash games that are embedded into excel files and its been hard trying to block it by disabling vba in office since there would be other documents in our office that would require it. does anyone know how to prevent users from executing these flash games in excel???

Tracking swf files

by Greg In reply to If you find something..

I found an answer - sort of. I can't stop them running but.... read on! Nirsoft's freeware program "SearchMyFiles" does pretty much what I needed.

I can do a global search for word. ppt and xls documents that include the content '.swf'
Those I find I open, delete the offending comntent and drop a copy of the School's AUP in it's place (comes as a nasty shock to the students!) In an office environment one would log it and if it reappears (and if appropriate) refer the details to the line manager I suppose.
