Prevent users from moving shared folder

By NateH ·
Hi all,

Running Win2000 Server with a shared folder that users can put in their files and share with others.

I find that sometimes, either inadvertently, users move the shared folder.

Is there a way to give them permissions to add/delete/change files in the folder, but not be able to move the folder itself?

thanks

Nate

Where are they moving the folders to? If the user does not have write permission in the directory they are trying to move the folder to they will not be able to move thefolder to it. What are the current share attributes? Try changing the share attributes to "Change" instead of the default "Full Control".

Cheers.

Map them directly to the share so it looks like a root location. If they can't see the folder they won't bother with it.

I believe the folder is resident in your server that way no singular user is the owner of the folder. Grant those users their needed level of access to the folder but not full control. You can do any of these two things:

1. map a drive to the folder so each user can access the folder as if it locally resident on his machine

2. create a shortcut to the shared folder on each user's desktop so they can access it but not mess with it.
