Preventing unauthorized Internet Access

By lmayeda ·
I have a couple of Win98s on the LAN. Unfortunately, they are not in locked offices so when the user is not at the desk, anyone can plop down and access the internet. Is there a way to prevent someone who does not have access to the domain, from surfing on the internet?

If u have a domain then on the server you can give access rights for internet explorer.
Make a group and add those users to it whom you want to give the internet access.
give the internet explorer access to this group and deny others the access.
also advice the users to always log off their terminals when going out

Yes, this might work but involves too much work with existing users and new users. Thanks anyway.

I think I'll opt for a more low-tech approach to this issue since only one of the 98's is accessible to passerbys. I hate to have to add a special security group to everyone else's profile. I think I'll have the user simply disconnect his network cable when he leaves for the day ... most people won't bother to check. Thanks anyway .. I can probably use your solution for other issue.
