Preventing Users from Saving to desktop.

By Brian158 ·
I have a user that continues to save items to desktop. Then later logs onto another computer looking for his docs again. Is there a way I can set windows 2000 to not allow him to save items to his desktop? Is there also a script possible a log on script I can use for this user that will not allow him to do this at all?

Drill down into the users profile desktop
Documents & settings - username - desktop
Remove NTFS write permissions from the users desktop folder

Sorry this did not help me at all. We are connecting to a SBSever 2003. All users are using win 2000. Users are loging on to muliple machines everyday. I was wondering if someone knew what the script would be for this one.

Sure, change hs LOCAL profile on his system from power user to just plain old user... what he sees is what he gets. Have a few of those rocket scientists here myself...

This worked. Thanks. I thought about this one before but just really hated to do this to ever computer. I would of rathered just have a script do it but this worked. Thank you! I actually set his local profile to restricted users group. I noticed he was downloading things that should not be downloaded. Our policy here states NO File Sharing Programs. But he thinks he is above the rest. This solution will work for now until I try to find a script to make this network wide. If you or anyone else might know of where I could find a script to make this network wide please feel free to email me at bkessler1@hvc.rr.com Thank you again.
