print 2-D barcodes from UniVerse/AIX

By shiny_topadm ·
Hi to all,
We're looking for suggestions for this project: we wish to add a PDF417 (2-dimensional) barcode to an order ticket that we currently print on a laser printer. Our system is totally text-based, P5-520 server, terminals, and OKI B6200n laser printers. We know we need to add some software to create and output the barcode, but we'd like to know what experiences other shops can share. Our existing software environment is called UniVerse and is a "MultiValue" database ("Pick"-like) that has a Business-BASIC derived programming language. All of the existing applications were created internally, so we can modify as needed, but any kind of graphic 'stuff' is new territory here.
Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions,

this site has the software to print the particular barcode you want:

these sites use ttf font files to print bar codes, adding support for a different font to the output may be easier to get up and running.

Jaqui - thanks for the response. I had found the tec-it site while searching, but since they don't provide pricing, it's kind of incomplete for a preliminary conversation. Thanks also for the fonts links, but so-called 2-dimensional barcodes are more complex; they can contain multiple fields of data along with descriptors, examples I've seen were generated by a small program and then output as some kind of graphic file. I'll leave this open for a little while...
