print drivers on server

By matt5968 ·
When you suspect there may be something wrong with a printer driver on the server. Whats the best way to correct it.. Should I first delete the printer and reload driver or just re install over existing driver. Also should I go to all my clents pc and dowload drivers to them .. I have a mix of nt 4.0 workstation and win 98..Problem Im having is when nt clients print in filemaker pro data base it wont print the headers but works ok with win 98 clients..Thanks

I would suggest before reinstalling the print drivers on the server going to one of the workstations and installing the latest drivers and see if that works. If it does you will need to reinstall the drivers on the server.

You would be better off removing the old driver first so your sure everything is gone. Then reinstall the updated driver. Then you will need to reinstall the driver on each workstation. The best way to do that would be to delete there printer and add it back. Make sure you tell it to delete all files...

you can also add the LPR point and print. By adding this port you can install the drivers for different OS Win95/95 etc.. on the server. Then you can browse to that server from the client and click on the printer you wnat to install and it asks you a couple of questions and installs the drivers on the workstations automatically. You also have to add the printers to the host file on the server. Should be able to find a procedure on the net of how to set it up.
